Feltdata

Feltdata is an open data standard and platform designed to capture, store, and share structured sensory data from tactile and environmental sensors. It aims to provide a consistent data model and exchange formats to improve interoperability, reproducibility, and privacy in data-driven fields such as smart textiles, wearable devices, and environmental monitoring.

The core data model organizes records with fields such as timestamp, sensor_id, device_type, measurement, unit, accuracy, and provenance. Optional context fields allow attaching location, experiment_id, calibration data, and environmental conditions. The model supports domain-specific extensions for textile sensing, material science, and consumer electronics.

Governance and licensing: Feltdata is developed as an open standard under a permissive license with community governance through a steering committee and technical working groups. Contributions follow documented data quality, validation, and privacy requirements.

Implementation and tooling: Reference implementations provide validators, parsers, and software development kits for multiple languages. Data can be serialized in common interchange formats and stored in time-series databases or data lakes. Privacy controls, such as data minimization and consent tagging, are integrated into the workflow.
