Felelset

Felelset is a fictional genus described in fantasy literature and worldbuilding resources. It denotes small, bioluminescent, nocturnal mammals that inhabit forest canopies.

Adults measure 35–50 cm in length, with 15–25 cm tails. Fur ranges from pale silver to chestnut, and photophores along the chest and shoulders emit a soft glow that intensifies during social displays.

They are omnivorous foragers living in groups of 3–12, using vocalizations and rhythmic light displays to communicate. They are agile climbers and mainly nocturnal.

Breeding is seasonal; gestation lasts about 60–70 days, yielding one or two offspring. Young stay with the group for several months.

In fiction, felelset are described as endemic to temperate cloud forests of the Archipelago of Arinor, at elevations around 800–2,000 meters. They are often portrayed as dusk messengers or gentle familiars, with their glow providing limited light in darkness.

The term felelset is used variably by sources and has no real-world taxonomic status.
