Fehérjeleadás

Fehérjeleadás refers to the process of protein degradation or breakdown within an organism. This is a fundamental biological process that occurs in all living cells and is essential for maintaining cellular health and function. Proteins are complex molecules made up of amino acids, and they perform a vast array of tasks, from acting as enzymes to providing structural support. Over time, proteins can become damaged, misfolded, or no longer needed by the cell. Fehérjeleadás is the mechanism by which these unwanted or damaged proteins are removed.

There are several key pathways involved in fehérjeleadás. The ubiquitin-proteasome system is a major route, where proteins are tagged with a small molecule called ubiquitin, marking them for destruction by a large protein complex called the proteasome. Another significant pathway is autophagy, a cellular process where the cell engulfs portions of its cytoplasm, including proteins and organelles, within a vesicle called an autophagosome. This autophagosome then fuses with a lysosome, where the contents are broken down by hydrolytic enzymes.

The breakdown products of fehérjeleadás, primarily amino acids, can then be recycled by the cell to synthesize new proteins, used as an energy source, or excreted from the body. This continuous cycle of protein synthesis and degradation, known as protein turnover, is crucial for cellular adaptation, response to stress, and overall organismal homeostasis. Dysregulation of fehérjeleadás pathways has been implicated in various diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders and cancer.
