Fehrbellin

Fehrbellin is a municipality in the Havelland district of Brandenburg, Germany. It is situated about 50 kilometers northwest of Berlin and 10 kilometers north of Wittstock/Dosse. The town is historically significant for the Battle of Fehrbellin, which took place in 1675.

The Battle of Fehrbellin was a pivotal event during the Franco-Swedish War and the Scanian War. In this battle, the Brandenburg army, led by the Great Elector Frederick William, decisively defeated the Swedish forces. This victory halted the Swedish invasion of Brandenburg and is considered a crucial moment in Prussian military history, contributing to the rise of Brandenburg-Prussia as a major European power.

Today, Fehrbellin is a small town with a population of around 1,600 residents. It retains some historical charm, though much of the town has been rebuilt over the centuries. The municipality also encompasses several surrounding villages. The area is characterized by its rural landscape, with forests and agricultural land. Fehrbellin serves as a local administrative center for the surrounding communities.
