Feedbacken

Feedbacken is a Dutch verb used for the act of providing feedback. Derived from the English term feedback, it denotes information about a person’s performance, a product, or a process intended to promote learning and improvement. In Dutch discourse, feedbacken spans workplaces, schools, teams, and service contexts.

In practice, feedbacken can be formal, such as performance reviews or project evaluations, or informal, such as brief comments after a task. It may address behavior, output, or outcomes and is often part of a feedback loop that supports adaptation, learning, and quality improvement.

Common types include formative feedback (during development), summative feedback (at its end), positive feedback (reinforcing strengths), and corrective feedback (addressing gaps). Feedback can come from supervisors, peers, subordinates, or customers and may be written, oral, or via digital dashboards.

Effective feedbacken is timely, specific, and actionable, based on observed behavior and its impact. It should focus on what can be changed, be balanced, and include concrete next steps. It works best in a culture of psychological safety, where trust and openness are present; biases and fatigue can limit its usefulness.
