Favoriten

Favoriten is the 10th district of Vienna, Austria. It lies in the southern part of the city and is part of the municipal district Wien-Favoriten.

Geography and character: The district is densely built and mixed in character, combining residential neighborhoods with commercial and light industrial areas. A central commercial artery is Favoritenstraße, which runs roughly north–south through the district and connects neighborhoods with shops, markets, and services.

History and administration: Favoriten developed during the late 19th and early 20th centuries as Vienna expanded beyond its old city walls. Today it remains a working-class and multicultural district. The district is administered by a district office (Bezirksamt) and a locally elected Bezirksvertretung (district council).

Demographics: Favoriten is ethnically diverse, with long-standing communities from Turkey and the Balkans, as well as residents from other parts of Europe and the world. This diversity shapes local culture, cuisine, and social life.

Transportation and economy: The district is served by Vienna's public transport network, including tram and bus lines and access to the rapid transit network (U-Bahn). Local economy emphasizes small and medium-sized enterprises, retail, and services, with markets and shopping facilities along major streets.

Notable features: It includes many schools, community facilities, and cultural centers; it has parks and open spaces that serve residents.
