Farehåndtering

Farehåndtering, often translated as risk management, is a systematic process for identifying, assessing, and controlling threats that could negatively impact an organization or individual. It involves understanding potential dangers, their likelihood of occurring, and the severity of their consequences. The goal is to minimize losses and protect assets, operations, and reputation.

The process typically begins with hazard identification, where potential risks are brainstormed and documented. This can include a wide range of issues such as financial instability, operational failures, natural disasters, cyber threats, and human error. Following identification, risk assessment quantifies and qualifies these identified risks. This involves analyzing the probability of each risk materializing and the potential impact if it does.

Once risks are assessed, strategies for risk treatment are developed. These strategies can include avoiding the risk altogether, reducing its probability or impact, transferring the risk to another party (e.g., through insurance), or accepting the risk if the potential impact is deemed low or the cost of mitigation is too high.
