Farbindustrie
Farbindustrie, or the dye industry, is the sector of the chemical industry dedicated to the production of dyes and pigments used to color textiles, paper, coatings, plastics and cosmetics. It encompasses dyestuffs, which are soluble coloring agents, and pigments, which are insoluble colorants used in paints and plastics. Historically, the field began with natural dyes obtained from plants, insects and minerals. The modern industry emerged in the 19th century after the discovery of synthetic dyes, notably mauveine by William Perkin in 1856, followed by the development of azo dyes and later reactive and disperse dyes, expanding color palettes and improving color fastness.
