FCAL
FCAL is an initialism most commonly used to denote a forward calorimeter, a class of particle detector installed close to the beamline in collider experiments. Forward calorimeters measure the energy and position of particles produced at small polar angles relative to the beam, providing information on forward jets, neutral particles, and beam-related backgrounds. They play key roles in event reconstruction, luminosity monitoring and vetoing, and in measurements sensitive to the forward region.
Designs vary by experiment and physics goals but typically use a sampling structure with alternating high-density
The term FCAL is also associated with collaborative R&D efforts for future linear colliders; the FCAL Collaboration
