FASTON

FASTON is a family of quick-disconnect electrical connectors, commonly referred to as fast-on or spade connectors. The term originates from the FASTON line developed by AMP Inc. (now TE Connectivity) and is widely used to describe crimp-on male tab and female receptacle terminals that enable fast, removable electrical connections in wiring harnesses. While FASTON is a TE Connectivity trademark, the name is often used generically for similar quick-disconnect blade systems from other manufacturers.

FASTON terminals are designed as crimp connectors. The basic mating pair consists of a flat male tab (the blade) and a corresponding female receptacle. They are produced in several standard widths corresponding to common conductor sizes: 2.8 mm (0.110 in), 4.8 mm (0.187 in), and 6.3 mm (0.250 in). Terminals are offered in insulated and non-insulated versions, with plating options such as tin or nickel to improve corrosion resistance, and may be used with various housings or clips for organization and retention.

Applications for FASTON connectors are broad, including automotive wiring, household appliances, power supplies, and control panels. They are valued for simple, tool-assisted crimping, quick mating and separation, and good contact reliability when properly terminated with the correct crimp tools and compatible housings.

Standards and compatibility: FASTON terminals are widely documented and used in UL-listed or CSA-certified assemblies, and many manufacturers offer components designed to be compatible with TE Connectivity’s FASTON family. Users should reference manufacturer datasheets for current and voltage ratings, insulation requirements, and crimp specifications.
