FA18C

The FA-18C Hornet is a tandem two-seat, twin-engine, all-weather carrier-capable multirole combat jet. It was developed by McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) and Northrop for the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The FA-18C is an upgrade from the earlier FA-18A/B variants, featuring improvements in avionics, radar, and weapons carrying capabilities.

Key enhancements in the FA-18C over its predecessors include the AN/APG-73 radar, which provides improved range and target resolution, and an expanded electronic warfare suite. It can carry a wide array of air-to-air and air-to-ground munitions, including AIM-120 AMRAAM, AIM-9 Sidewinder, AGM-65 Maverick, and AGM-84 Harpoon missiles, as well as various laser-guided and GPS-guided bombs. The aircraft is also equipped with an internal M61 Vulcan 20mm rotary cannon.

Designed for carrier operations, the FA-18C possesses a robust landing gear, a tailhook for arrested landings, and folding wings for storage. Its versatility allows it to perform fighter escort, interdiction, reconnaissance, and close air support missions. The FA-18C has served extensively with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, as well as with several international operators. While newer variants like the FA-18E/F Super Hornet have entered service, the FA-18C continues to be an important asset in many air forces.
