Fångstmodeller

Fångstmodeller, often translated as "capture models" or "catch models" in English, are mathematical frameworks used in ecology and wildlife management to estimate animal population sizes and other demographic parameters. These models are crucial when direct counting of every individual in a population is impossible or impractical. They typically rely on data collected from sampling events, such as trapping, surveying, or mark-recapture studies.

The core principle behind most fångstmodeller is to relate the observed data from these sampling events to the underlying, unobserved population size. For instance, in a simple mark-recapture model, animals are captured, marked, and released. A subsequent capture session then uses the proportion of marked animals recaptured to infer the total population.
