Eyran

Eyran is a coastal city-state situated on the eastern seaboard of the fictional continent of Avoria. Covering about 150 square kilometers, it has a population in the low hundreds of thousands and functions as both a political entity and an urban center. The city’s harbor, at the mouth of the Amara River, has long driven its economic and cultural development, attracting merchants from across the region.

Archaeological evidence points to early settlements in the Iron Age, with Eyran rising as a maritime trading hub in the medieval period. It gained de facto autonomy in the 17th century and established a municipal government that evolved into a constitutional city-state by the 19th century. In modern times, Eyran has maintained a stable, rules-based governance system and participates in regional affairs through a council that represents districts.

Geographically, Eyran sits on a network of tidal lagoons and limestone bluffs, with a temperate to subtropical climate. The harbor area includes seawalls and basins designed to withstand seasonal storms. Surrounding wetlands host diverse ecosystems that are protected by conservation programs.

The economy centers on its port as a logistics hub, complemented by fishing, light manufacturing, and tourism. Eyran has invested in renewable energy, with wind and solar facilities forming part of the city’s power grid. The transportation system combines a metro network, ferries, and dedicated bikeways. The educational sector includes two universities and several research institutes.

Eyran’s official language is Eyrani, with regional dialects and minority languages present. Cultural life centers on markets, waterfront promenades, museums, and annual festivals celebrating maritime heritage. Local cuisine emphasizes seafood, citrus, and herbs, while sports such as sailing and football are popular.
