ExpressionaA is an open‑source, domain‑specific language created in 2023 by the ExpressionaA Initiative, a collaboration between mathematicians and computer scientists. The language is designed primarily for symbolic computation, allowing users to define, manipulate, and evaluate algebraic expressions, including polynomials, rational functions, and transcendental expressions.

ExpressionaA features a lightweight syntax that resembles conventional mathematical notation, with the goal of reducing the learning curve for mathematicians and educators. Operators such as +, –, *, /, and ^ behave as expected, while function definitions use the form f(x) = expression. The language also provides pattern‑matching capabilities, enabling rewriting rules for simplifying expressions, and supports lazy evaluation to delay computation until results are explicitly requested.

Execution is typically performed by an interpreter written in C++, but a just‑in‑time (JIT) compilation backend is available for performance‑critical tasks. ExpressionaA code may be embedded in Python scripts via the pyExpraA bridge, allowing seamless integration with data science workflows, or accessed from R through the RExpraA package.
