Ewoks

The Ewoks are a fictional species of small, furry, bipedal humanoids in the Star Wars universe. Native to the forest moon of Endor, they stand roughly one meter tall and have large eyes and a bear-like appearance. They live in tree villages and are known for their woodcraft and trap-based technology, which they use to defend their forests.

Society and culture among Ewoks is organized into clans led by chieftains or shamans, such as Logray or Chief Chirpa. Social life centers on family, ritual, and the forest. They speak Ewok, a distinct language with its own grammar and vocabulary, and communicate through a mix of vocalizations, body language, and songs. Their technology is primitive but effective, relying on carved wood, stone, and simple mechanical devices to build homes, weapons, and defenses; elaborate traps and ambush tactics play a prominent role in their warfare and defense.

In the Star Wars films, Ewoks first appear in The Return of the Jedi (1983) on Endor, where they aid the Rebel Alliance in the Battle of Endor and help bring about the destruction of the second Death Star. The Ewoks have appeared in other Star Wars media beyond the films, including 1980s television specials, animated series, and novels and comics in both the Legends and Canon continuities. In canon, they are presented as resourceful forest dwellers with a strong sense of community and independence.
