Evrópa

Evrópa is the Icelandic name for the continent commonly known in English as Europe. It lies mainly in the northern hemisphere and, to some extent, in the eastern hemisphere. The eastern boundary is traditionally placed at the Ural Mountains, and the boundary with Asia is not universally agreed. In some definitions the Caucasus region is included in Europe, while others place it in Asia.

Geographically, Evrópa features a wide range of landscapes, from Arctic zones in the north to vast plains in the center and east, and extensive mountain ranges such as the Alps, Pyrenees, Carpathians, and Balkan Mountains. The continent has a long coastline along the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. Major rivers include the Danube, Rhine, and Volga, which have shaped settlement and trade across multiple regions.

Demographically and politically, Evrópa is home to roughly three-quarters of a billion people. It is highly urbanized and has a long history of state formation, institutions, and cultural exchange. The European Union, as of 2024, comprises 27 member states and serves as a central economic and political bloc for many Europeans. Other European states participate in regional organizations such as the Council of Europe and NATO. Evrópa has a rich cultural heritage and has played a pivotal role in world history, from antiquity through the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, industrialization, and modern globalization.
