Europamesterskapet

Europamesterskapet, also known as the European Championship, is a quadrennial international football tournament contested by the senior men's national teams of the member associations of UEFA. The tournament is organized by UEFA and is one of the most widely viewed and followed sporting events in the world.

The first European Championship was held in 1960 in France, and was initially called the UEFA European Football Championship. The tournament has since been held every four years, with the exception of 1940, when the event was cancelled due to World War II. The competition typically features 16 teams, although in some years the tournament has been expanded to include more teams.

The tournament is typically played in a round-robin format, with the teams divided into groups of four. The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stage, where the competition becomes a single-elimination tournament. The winners of the tournament are awarded the Henri Delaunay Trophy, named after the founding president of UEFA, Henri Delaunay.

Denmark has won the tournament once, in 1992, when the team defeated Germany in the final. Other successful teams in the competition's history include the Netherlands, Germany, and France, who have all won the tournament twice each. The tournament has been a platform for players to gain international recognition and has helped launch the careers of some of the greatest footballers of all time. The event continues to draw massive attention and crowds, with the 2020 tournament being viewed by a record-breaking 4.9 billion people worldwide.
