Etnógrafía

Etnografía is a qualitative research method used in social sciences, particularly anthropology and sociology. It involves the in-depth study and systematic observation of a particular social group or culture. The primary goal of ethnography is to gain a deep understanding of the lived experiences, customs, beliefs, and social structures of the people being studied from their own perspective.

The core of ethnographic research is participant observation, where the researcher immerses themselves in the community for an extended period, observing and participating in daily life. This allows for the collection of rich, descriptive data through field notes, interviews, conversations, and the analysis of artifacts and documents. Ethnographic research often employs a holistic approach, seeking to understand the interconnectedness of various aspects of a culture. It emphasizes an emic perspective, meaning the researcher strives to understand the phenomena from the insider's point of view, rather than imposing an outsider's (etic) framework.

Ethnography is characterized by its flexibility and emergent design, meaning the research questions and methods may evolve as the study progresses. The findings are typically presented as detailed narratives, often referred to as ethnographies, which aim to provide a vivid and nuanced portrayal of the studied group. This method is valuable for exploring complex social phenomena, challenging assumptions, and contributing to a broader understanding of human diversity.
