Ethyleneinsensitive

Ethyleneinsensitive is a term used in plant biology to describe a condition where a plant fails to respond normally to the plant hormone ethylene. Ethylene is a gaseous molecule that plays a critical role in numerous developmental processes in plants, including fruit ripening, leaf senescence, flower wilting, and stress responses. Mutations in genes involved in the ethylene signaling pathway can lead to ethyleneinsensitivity.

The ethylene signaling pathway is a complex cascade that begins with ethylene perception by ethylene receptor proteins. Upon binding ethylene, these receptors interact with other signaling components, ultimately leading to the activation or repression of downstream genes. If any of these components are defective due to a mutation, the plant may become insensitive to ethylene.
