Ethanolfree

Ethanolfree is a descriptor used for products that claim to contain no ethanol (ethyl alcohol). The term appears most commonly in two broad domains: fuels and consumer products. In fuels, ethanol-free gasoline or non-ethanol gasoline refers to gasoline that contains little to no ethanol, distinguishing it from common blends such as E10 that include ethanol by volume. It is marketed to users of small engines, boats, or in environments where ethanol can cause issues like phase separation, corrosion, or fuel line swelling. Availability and labeling vary by region and by local fuel mandates; some stations explicitly label ethanol-free options.

In consumer products, ethanol-free is used for items such as certain mouthwashes, cosmetics, and medicinal tinctures, where ethanol is avoided as a solvent, preservative, or active ingredient. These products may use alternatives such as propylene glycol, glycerin, or water-based formulations. Ethanol-free formulations are preferred by some individuals with sensitivities or allergies or where ethanol could interfere with packaging, storage, or chemical reactions. However, labeling can vary, and some products labeled as ethanol-free may still contain trace amounts of ethanol within regulatory tolerances or may contain other types of alcohol.
