Esôfagogástrica refers to the junction between the esophagus and the stomach. This area is anatomically and functionally significant, playing a role in digestion and preventing the reflux of stomach contents back into the esophagus. The lower esophageal sphincter, a muscular ring, is located at this junction and controls the passage of food from the esophagus into the stomach. When this sphincter functions properly, it relaxes to allow food to enter the stomach and then tightens to prevent backflow.
