Estrogen receptors are implicated in a wide range of physiological processes, including reproduction, bone health, cardiovascular function, and cognitive development. They also play a role in the development and progression of certain diseases, such as breast cancer, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular diseases. The study of estrogen receptors has led to the development of selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), which are used in the treatment of conditions such as menopause and osteoporosis. However, the use of SERMs has also been associated with an increased risk of certain cancers, highlighting the complex and multifaceted role of estrogen receptors in human health.
