EstopPropagation refers to the process by which an emergency stop (E-stop) command is propagated through a machine or process control system so that all relevant devices enter a safe state as quickly as possible. It is a key concept in machinery safety, robotics, and industrial automation, where a single E-stop must halt power or motion across multiple actuators, drives, and control loops to prevent harm or damage.

The mechanism typically involves physical E-stop devices connected to safety circuits, safety relays, or safety controllers. In hardwired architectures, the E-stop closure interrupts the safety circuit and triggers a safe-off or safe-state command. In networked systems, safety controllers or safety-enabled fieldbuses convey the E-stop signal to drives, interlocks, and supervisory controllers. Redundancy, monitoring, and fail-safe design are common to ensure propagation even in the presence of faults. System designers consider latency, reach, and single-fault criteria to guarantee rapid and reliable stopping.
