Esterifioiduista refers to esterified compounds, i.e., chemical species produced by esterification, typically formed when a carboxylic acid reacts with an alcohol to yield an ester and water. In a common Fischer esterification, a carboxylic acid (RCO2H) reacts with an alcohol (R'OH) under acid catalysis to form an ester (RCO2R') and H2O. The reaction is reversible, so removing water or using excess alcohol shifts the equilibrium toward the ester.

Esters are diverse and can be classified as simple esters (alkyl or aryl esters of carboxylic acids), complex esters such as triglycerides (glycerol triesters of fatty acids), and cyclic esters called lactones. Natural esters occur in fats, waxes, essential oils, and flavors, while synthetic esters serve as solvents, plasticizers, and precursors for polyesters like PET. Transesterification is a common method to transform esters, and biodiesel production relies on transesterification of fats or oils to fatty acid methyl esters.

Properties of esterified compounds typically include moderate polarity and a lack of hydrogen-bond donating groups, which influences their boiling points and solvent behavior. They are often less reactive toward hydrolysis than carboxylic acids but can be hydrolyzed back to acids and alcohols under acidic or basic conditions.

Analytical methods such as infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance are used to identify esters. Infrared spectra show a characteristic carbonyl stretch around 1735–1750 cm−1, and NMR provides diagnostic signals for the ester moiety, helping to confirm structure and purity.
