Esreh

Esreh is a fictional town and regional capital in the northern Valoran region. It lies at the confluence of the Esreh River and the Bay of Naris. The name Esreh comes from the Esrehi language, meaning "edge of the forest." The town is noted for timber-framed houses and stone merchant buildings dating from the 16th century.

Founded as a trading post in the late 11th century by river merchants, Esreh grew into a regional hub for timber, grain, and textiles. It passed under the Kingdom of Valora in the 14th century and later became part of the modern republic.

The area has a temperate climate with warm summers and cool winters, a fertile river valley, and foothills with forests and quarries nearby. The economy blends agriculture, crafts, and small manufacturing, with textiles, pottery, and river-trade shipping as notable activities.

The population is about 18,000. Esrehi is the primary language, with Valoran commonly spoken as a second language. The city hosts an annual Harvest Festival and has a modest tradition of three-string lute music. Local cuisine emphasizes river fish and rye breads.

Landmarks include the Grand Market, the Old Bridge, and Esreh Cathedral. The city is governed by a mayor-council system within the Valoran Federated State. Esreh University offers programs in humanities and engineering, reflecting the town’s historic emphasis on trade and education.
