Esilämmitysjärjestelmän, often referred to as an engine block heater or coolant heater, is a device used to preheat the engine of a vehicle in cold weather conditions. Its primary function is to raise the temperature of the engine coolant, which in turn circulates and warms the engine block. This is particularly beneficial in regions with sub-zero temperatures, as it mitigates several issues associated with starting a cold engine.

There are two main types of esilämmitysjärjestelmät: electric and fuel-burning. Electric heaters are the most common and typically work by immersing a heating element into the engine's coolant. These are powered by an external electrical source, usually a standard household outlet, through a cord that is plugged into the vehicle.
