Ersättningskort

Ersättningskort is a Swedish term that translates to "replacement card" in English. It refers to a card issued to replace a lost, stolen, damaged, or expired card. This concept is most commonly associated with payment cards, such as credit cards and debit cards, but can also apply to other types of cards like identification cards, access cards, or loyalty cards.

When a payment card is compromised or no longer functional, the cardholder contacts their financial institution to report the issue. The institution then initiates the process of issuing an ersättningskort. This new card typically has a different card number and security code (CVV) to ensure the security of the account. The expiration date will also be updated to reflect the new card's validity period.

The process of obtaining an ersättningskort usually involves verifying the cardholder's identity. In cases of lost or stolen cards, the original card is immediately deactivated to prevent unauthorized transactions. The replacement card is then mailed to the cardholder, with delivery times varying depending on the issuing institution and the cardholder's location. Some institutions may offer expedited delivery for an additional fee. Upon receiving the ersättningskort, the cardholder must typically activate it before it can be used for transactions.
