Geometric isomerism arises from restricted rotation around double bonds or ring systems, leading to cis/trans or E/Z isomers. These isomers differ in the spatial arrangement of substituents, influencing physical properties and reactivity.

Determination and analysis often involve polarimetry, chiral chromatographic methods, or NMR with chiral agents. In practice, precise terminology depends on the specific stereochemical relationship being described; if a source uses "eroisomeric," it is advisable to verify whether the intended term was enantiomeric, diastereomeric, or geometric isomerism.
