Eristystestejä, known in English as insulation testing or megger testing, are a crucial part of electrical maintenance and safety. These tests measure the electrical resistance of insulation materials used in electrical equipment. The primary purpose is to identify potential problems with the insulation, such as degradation, contamination, or damage, which could lead to electrical failures, short circuits, or even fire hazards.

The tests are typically performed using a specialized instrument called an insulation tester, often referred to as a "megger." This device applies a high voltage DC current to the insulation and measures the resulting current flow. A low resistance reading indicates poor insulation quality, suggesting that electricity is leaking through where it shouldn't be. Conversely, a high resistance reading signifies good insulation.
