Erillisputkia

Erillisputkia, or "separate pipes" in Finnish, refers to a system where water supply and wastewater (sewer) lines are installed as distinct, independent networks within a building or property. This approach contrasts with combined sewer systems, where stormwater, wastewater, and sometimes even water supply lines are merged into a single conduit.

The primary advantage of erillisputkia is improved efficiency and reduced risk of contamination. By separating the flow of clean water from wastewater, the system minimizes the chance of backflow, where sewage could enter the potable water supply. This separation is particularly important in areas with high water pressure or where plumbing fixtures are prone to leaks. In Finland and other Nordic countries, erillisputkia is a common standard in residential and commercial construction due to its reliability and adherence to strict water safety regulations.
