Epäyksilöityvyyttä

Epäyksilöityvyyttä, often translated as "depersonalization" or "dereali-zation," is a dissociative experience characterized by a sense of detachment from oneself or one's surroundings. In depersonalization, individuals feel disconnected from their own thoughts, feelings, body, or actions, as if they are an outside observer of their own lives. They may describe feeling unreal, robotic, or like they are living in a dream. Sensations can feel dulled or distorted, and a sense of emotional numbness is common.

Dereali-zation, on the other hand, involves a feeling of detachment from one's external environment. The world may appear distorted, artificial, foggy, or dreamlike. Objects might seem flat, colorless, or strangely altered in size or shape. Time perception can also be affected, with moments feeling sped up or slowed down. Despite these subjective experiences, individuals undergoing depersonalization-dereali-zation generally maintain an awareness that their perceptions are not accurate and that something is not right with their sense of reality.

These experiences are not considered a sign of psychosis, as the individual's insight into their condition is typically preserved. They can be transient and occur in response to significant stress, trauma, or fatigue. However, persistent or recurrent depersonalization-dereali-zation can be a symptom of a depersonalization-dereali-zation disorder, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, or trauma-related disorders. The exact neurobiological mechanisms are still being researched, but it is thought to involve disruptions in brain networks responsible for self-awareness and sensory processing.
