Epäperioodisuus, meaning aperiodicity in Finnish, refers to a lack of repeating patterns or cycles over time. In mathematics and physics, phenomena are often categorized as either periodic, where a system returns to its original state after a fixed interval, or aperiodic, where such a regular repetition does not occur. Aperiodic behavior can be observed in various contexts, from the seemingly random motion of particles in a fluid to complex natural processes that do not follow predictable cycles.

In signal processing, an aperiodic signal is one that does not repeat itself.
