Epämetalliset
Epämetalliset, or nonmetals, are a class of chemical elements that generally share the property of being poor conductors of heat and electricity. They tend to have higher ionization energies and electronegativities compared to metals. In their elemental form, nonmetals can exist as gases, liquids, or solids at room temperature. For example, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, and the noble gases are nonmetals. Sulfur and phosphorus are solids, while carbon is also a solid.
Nonmetals are found in various locations on the periodic table, primarily in the upper right-hand section, excluding
Common examples of nonmetals include oxygen, essential for respiration in many organisms, and carbon, the basis
