Epäkiteisyys, also known as amorphousness or lack of crystallinity, refers to a state of matter lacking a long-range, ordered atomic or molecular structure. Unlike crystalline solids, where atoms are arranged in a regular, repeating lattice, the particles in an amorphous solid are positioned randomly, resembling a frozen liquid. This lack of order means that amorphous materials do not have a sharp melting point; instead, they soften gradually over a temperature range.

Common examples of epäkiteisyys are found in everyday materials. Glass is a prime example, being an amorphous solid formed by rapidly cooling molten silica. Polymers, such as plastics, are often amorphous due to the complex, tangled chains of molecules.
