Epäaromaattisista is a Finnish term that translates to "non-aromatic" in English. In chemistry, it refers to compounds that do not possess the special stability and electronic properties characteristic of aromatic systems. Aromaticity is a concept that applies to cyclic, planar molecules with a conjugated system of pi electrons. The most common criterion for aromaticity is Hückel's rule, which states that an aromatic compound must have (4n+2) pi electrons, where n is a non-negative integer. Non-aromatic compounds, on the other hand, fail to meet these criteria.

This lack of aromaticity means that non-aromatic compounds do not exhibit the same reactivity patterns or thermodynamic stability as their aromatic counterparts. For instance, aromatic compounds readily undergo electrophilic substitution reactions while resisting addition reactions, which are more typical for alkenes. Non-aromatic cyclic compounds often behave more like standard alkenes or dienes, undergoing addition reactions more readily. Examples of non-aromatic compounds include simple cycloalkanes, cycloalkenes, and cyclic compounds that do not have a fully conjugated pi system or have the wrong number of pi electrons according to Hückel's rule. The term is primarily used in organic chemistry to distinguish molecules from the special class of aromatic compounds.
