Epitheliisoluissa

Epitheliisoluissa refers to cells of epithelial tissue. Epithelial tissue, also known as epithelium, is one of the four basic types of animal tissue, along with connective tissue, muscle tissue, and nervous tissue. Epithelia form a variety of surfaces in the body, including the outer surface of the skin, the lining of internal organs, and the lining of body cavities and ducts. These cells are characterized by their close proximity to each other, forming continuous sheets.

Epithelial cells have a variety of functions depending on their location and type. These functions include protection, secretion, absorption, excretion, filtration, diffusion, and sensory reception. For example, the epithelial cells of the skin protect the body from external damage, while the epithelial cells lining the digestive tract are specialized for absorption of nutrients.

Structurally, epithelial cells are typically polarized, meaning they have distinct apical (free) and basal (attached) surfaces. The apical surface often has specialized structures like cilia or microvilli, which aid in movement or absorption. The basal surface is attached to a basement membrane, a layer of connective tissue. Epithelial tissue can be classified based on the number of cell layers (simple or stratified) and the shape of the cells (squamous, cuboidal, or columnar). Different combinations of these characteristics result in various types of epithelial tissues, each adapted for specific roles within the organism.
