Eorzea

Eorzea is a fictional continent on the planet Hydaelyn and serves as the primary setting for Square Enix's massively multiplayer online role-playing game Final Fantasy XIV. The land is divided into autonomous city-states and varied regions, inhabited by the major playable races and bound by shared myths, evolving politics, and ongoing conflicts with external powers.

Geographically, Eorzea encompasses deserts, forests, coastlines, and highlands. Its major political entities include Ul'dah in the Thanalan desert, Gridania in the Black Shroud, and Limsa Lominsa along the southern coast. Ishgard stands as a northern fortress-city-state in Coerthas. Other regions include the Coerthas Highlands and Gyr Abania in the south, each with its own towns, cultures, and factions, operating within a broader network of trade and alliance.

Historically, Eorzea faced the Calamity, a cataclysmic event that reshaped the world and led to the reformation known as A Realm Reborn. The narrative subsequently expanded through the game’s major expansions: Heavensward, which introduced Ishgard and a dragon-focused epoch; Stormblood, which featured the liberation of Ala Mhigo and related regions; Shadowbringers, which relocated the action to the First and its Norvrandt realm; and Endwalker, which culminated the ongoing storyline and broadened the scope of the world beyond Eorzea itself.

Playable races in Eorzea include Hyur, Elezen, Miqo'te, Roegadyn, and Lalafell, each with distinct cultures and ancestries. The world also preserves remnants of the ancient Allagan civilization, blending traditional fantasy with science-fantasy technology. Eorzea’s lore intertwines politics, religion, exploration, and collaborative online play as users undertake quests, dungeons, and raids across its diverse environments.
