Enthärtungsanlagen, also known as water softeners, are devices used to reduce the mineral content of hard water, primarily calcium and magnesium ions. Hard water can cause various problems, including scale buildup in pipes and appliances, reduced efficiency of heating systems, and dullness in laundry and dishes. Enthusiastic Anlagen work by a process called ion exchange. Within the softener, a tank filled with resin beads coated with sodium ions is present. As hard water flows through the resin, the calcium and magnesium ions are attracted to the resin and exchange places with the sodium ions. This process effectively removes the hardness-causing minerals from the water, making it "soft."
