Energydelivery refers to the systems, infrastructure, and processes used to transport and deliver energy from production sources to end users. The term covers multiple energy carriers, including electricity, natural gas, liquid fuels, district heating, and increasingly hydrogen. The goal is to ensure safe, reliable, efficient, and affordable energy delivery across diverse timescales.

Electric energy delivery comprises generation, transmission networks (high-voltage lines, substations, transformers), and distribution networks that step down voltage for end-user use. Supporting elements include load forecasting, energy storage, demand response, and metering. In gas delivery, the pipeline system, compressor stations, gas processing, storage, and metering deliver natural gas to consumers. District heating networks, oil pipelines, and emerging hydrogen pipelines form other delivery pathways. Across all carriers, control systems, sensors, and communications enable monitoring and control.

Technologies such as smart grids, grid modernization, SCADA, PMUs, and advanced distribution management systems improve reliability and efficiency. Distributed energy resources, microgrids, and energy storage enhance resilience and allow local energy delivery for outages or peak periods. Regulatory frameworks, market structures, and standards govern interconnection and reliability. Challenges include aging infrastructure, increasing penetration of intermittent renewables, cybersecurity risks, and the need for long-range planning and permitting. Environmental goals and electrification trends drive ongoing investment in energydelivery to reduce emissions and improve access to energy.
