Pumped hydro storage: This method stores energy by pumping water from a lower reservoir to an upper reservoir when energy is abundant. Flywheel energy storage: Flywheels store energy in a rotating mass. They can release energy quickly and efficiently, making them suitable for applications that require rapid response times. Flywheels are often used in conjunction with other energy storage systems to provide short-term storage.

Thermal energy storage: Thermal energy storage systems capture and store heat or cold for later use. They can be used for space heating, cooling, or industrial processes. Thermal energy storage is particularly useful for integrating renewable energy sources into existing infrastructure.

Energy storage systems play a crucial role in the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid. They help to balance supply and demand, improve grid stability, and enable the use of intermittent renewable energy sources.
