Endoparásitos

Endoparásitos are organisms that live inside the body of another organism, known as the host. They derive nutrients and shelter from the host, often causing harm in the process. These internal parasites can infect a wide range of animals, including humans, and can inhabit various organs and tissues such as the digestive tract, liver, lungs, and bloodstream.

The life cycles of endoparasites can be complex, often involving multiple hosts or distinct developmental stages. Transmission to a new host can occur through ingestion of contaminated food or water, direct contact with infected individuals, or via vectors like insects. Common examples of endoparasites include protozoa like Giardia, helminths such as tapeworms and roundworms, and various types of flukes.

Infections by endoparasites can lead to a variety of symptoms, depending on the type of parasite, its location in the host, and the severity of the infestation. These symptoms can range from mild gastrointestinal upset to severe organ damage, malnutrition, anemia, and even death in untreated cases. Diagnosis is typically made through microscopic examination of stool samples, blood tests, or imaging techniques. Treatment usually involves antiparasitic medications. Prevention strategies focus on hygiene, safe food and water practices, and vector control.
