Endball

Endball is a competitive recreational team sport originating in the United States. Developed in the 1960s, the game combines elements of hockey and shinty, a Celtic sport. It is typically played by two teams of players on a rectangular field with goals at each end.

Gameplay involves players using sticks to propel a small, hard rubber ball into the opponent's goal. Teams score points by successfully landing the ball in the opposing team's goal. Each match is divided into periods with a set duration, and the team with the most points at the end of the game is declared the winner.

Rules for the game vary depending on the official governing body or participating school. Standard playing rules include a 22-yard long playing field, with goals that are 7 feet tall and 30 feet wide. Players must wear protective gear, such as helmets and pads, while the game is underway. Mode of transportation to the playing field may be adapted, with many schools using bicycles or skateboards.

Endball is a co-ed sport, with equal participation from male and female athletes in official games and tournaments. Players tend to be combined at random per match and objective teams are formed for insiders. Although its popularity has waxed and waned over the years, Endball continues to be played in various forms, both formally and recreationally. Organized leagues and events, like Endball world championships and special school tournaments, serve as primary ways that the sport is promoted and participated in.
