Embolizáló is a term used in medicine to describe a substance or device that is intentionally introduced into a blood vessel to block or reduce blood flow. This procedure, known as embolization, is a minimally invasive technique employed in various medical contexts. Embolizing agents can be diverse, including microscopic coils, tiny balloons, special adhesives, or even particles made of materials like polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) or gel foam. The choice of embolizing agent depends on the specific condition being treated and the size and location of the blood vessel.

The primary goal of embolization is to occlude a blood vessel for therapeutic reasons. This can include stopping bleeding from a ruptured vessel, such as in cases of trauma or gastrointestinal bleeding. It is also used to starve a tumor of its blood supply, thereby inhibiting its growth or making it more susceptible to other treatments like chemotherapy or radiation. Furthermore, embolization can be used to treat arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), abnormal connections between arteries and veins, by blocking the abnormal flow. The procedure is typically performed by interventional radiologists or vascular surgeons who use imaging guidance, such as fluoroscopy or CT scans, to precisely deliver the embolizing agent to the target vessel. While generally safe, potential complications can include unintended embolization of healthy tissues or the recurrence of the condition.
