Ellence

Ellence is a fictional metropolitan city in the imagined nation of Veridia. Located along the Verdan River in the central lowlands, it serves as the administrative and economic hub of the Veridian region. The city has an estimated population of about 1.1 million and covers roughly 350 square kilometers, blending historic districts with modern neighborhoods.

The area was settled in the medieval period by merchant guilds and grew as a trading center. It expanded during the industrial era and became Veridia's core financial and cultural center by the 20th century. A major earthquake in 1952 prompted extensive rebuilding and later renewal programs in the 1990s and 2000s.

Ellence houses the regional government and the Veridia Regional Assembly. The economy is diversified, including banking, logistics, technology, and manufacturing. The city is a major transport hub, with Ellence International Airport and a high-speed rail connection to other major cities.

It hosts several universities, museums, and cultural venues, and annually hosts a biennial arts festival. Its architectural landscape blends neoclassical heritage with modern districts. Ellence University and the College of Arts contribute to research and the creative economy.

Notable landmarks include Ellence Cathedral, City Hall, Riverfront Park, and the Grand Market. The population is ethnically diverse, with Veridian as the dominant language and several minority languages represented.
