Elektrosinkityksessä

Elektrosinkityksessä, also known as electrogalvanizing or electrozinc plating, is a common industrial process used to apply a thin layer of zinc onto a metal substrate, typically steel. This process involves immersing the object to be coated into an electrolyte solution containing zinc ions. An electric current is then passed through the solution, with the object acting as the cathode and a zinc anode. This electrical stimulation causes the zinc ions in the electrolyte to migrate and deposit onto the surface of the object, forming a protective zinc coating.

The primary purpose of elektrosinkityksessä is to provide corrosion resistance. Zinc acts as a sacrificial anode, meaning it corrodes preferentially to the base metal, thereby protecting it from rust and other forms of degradation. This makes the process particularly useful for protecting steel components used in environments where moisture and other corrosive agents are present, such as automotive parts, fasteners, and construction materials.

The thickness of the zinc coating can be controlled by adjusting the current density and the duration of the electroplating process. Following the deposition, the coated parts may undergo passivation, which is a further chemical treatment to enhance the corrosion resistance and provide a desired finish, often in various colors like clear, yellow, or black.
