Elektronrørbaserede refers to technology or devices that utilize electron tubes, also known as vacuum tubes, as their primary active components. These tubes are glass or metal enclosures from which the air has been removed, creating a vacuum. Within this vacuum, electrodes control the flow of electrons, enabling functions such as amplification, switching, and rectification of electrical signals.

Electron tubes were the foundational technology for early electronics, appearing in radios, televisions, early computers, and audio equipment. Their operation relies on thermionic emission, where a heated filament (cathode) releases electrons that are then controlled by voltage applied to other electrodes, like the grid and plate. The precise arrangement and voltage applied to these electrodes determine the tube's function.

Despite being largely superseded by solid-state semiconductor devices like transistors and integrated circuits, electron tube technology still finds application in specific niches. These include high-fidelity audio amplifiers, where some audiophiles prefer the characteristic sound produced by tubes, and in certain high-power radio transmitters and microwave ovens, where their ability to handle high voltages and frequencies remains advantageous. The manufacturing and maintenance of electron tubes require specialized knowledge and processes.
