Elektronipuskurit

Elektronipuskurit, or electronic fuses, are safety devices designed to protect electrical circuits from damage caused by overcurrents or short circuits. Unlike traditional mechanical fuses that melt a wire to break the circuit, electronic fuses use semiconductor components to detect and interrupt the flow of electricity. This allows for faster reaction times and more precise control over the circuit protection.

The primary function of an elektronipuskuri is to sense an excessive current. When the current exceeds a predetermined threshold, the device quickly activates, typically by switching off a semiconductor switch like a MOSFET or IGBT. This effectively opens the circuit, preventing damage to sensitive components downstream. Some advanced elektronipuskurit can also offer features such as overvoltage protection, undervoltage lockout, and temperature monitoring.

The advantages of using elektronipuskurit over conventional fuses include their resettability, meaning they can often be reset and reused after an overcurrent event, unlike a blown mechanical fuse which must be replaced. They also offer a wider range of current and voltage ratings, and their electronic nature allows for integration into intelligent power management systems.
