Elektriautodel, often referred to as electric vehicles (EVs), are automobiles that use one or more electric motors for propulsion. Their power source is typically a battery pack that is recharged by plugging into an external electricity source. Unlike internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, which burn fossil fuels to generate power, EVs produce zero tailpipe emissions, contributing to improved air quality in urban environments.

The concept of electric propulsion for vehicles dates back to the early days of automotive development, with electric carriages appearing in the mid-19th century. However, advancements in battery technology and internal combustion engines led to the dominance of gasoline-powered cars for much of the 20th century. In recent decades, renewed interest in EVs has been driven by environmental concerns, rising fuel prices, and technological progress.

Modern electric vehicles offer a range of benefits. Their operation is generally quieter and smoother than traditional cars. The electric motor provides instant torque, leading to quick acceleration. Maintenance requirements can also be lower, as EVs have fewer moving parts and do not require oil changes. The charging infrastructure for EVs is expanding, with public charging stations becoming more common in many regions, alongside the option of home charging. Challenges still include range anxiety for some consumers and the initial purchase price, though this is often offset by lower running costs and government incentives.
