Electrosíntesis

Electrosíntesis is a chemical technique that uses electrical energy to drive chemical reactions. In this process, an electric current is passed through an electrolyte, which is a solution or molten substance containing ions. The electrodes, typically made of conductive materials, facilitate the transfer of electrons to or from the chemical species in the electrolyte, leading to their transformation.

The fundamental principle behind electrosynthesis is electrochemistry, specifically redox reactions. At the anode, oxidation occurs as a species loses electrons, while at the cathode, reduction takes place as a species gains electrons. By carefully controlling the applied voltage and current, chemists can selectively promote specific reactions and synthesize desired products.

Electrosynthesis offers several advantages over traditional chemical synthesis methods. It can often be more environmentally friendly, as it may reduce the need for harsh chemical reagents and can be performed at ambient temperatures and pressures. It also allows for precise control over reaction pathways and product selectivity, which can be difficult to achieve otherwise.
