Eldorish

Eldorish is a fictional language created for fantasy settings, notably in the world of Eldoria. It is the language of the Eldori people and appears in novels, games, and related media as a fully developed communication system.

Eldorish traces to an early mythic era and was subsequently codified by in-world scholars. It has regional varieties, including Northern Eldorish and Southern Eldorish, each with distinct phonological traits and vocabulary, though mutually intelligible in standard Eldorish.

Eldorish phonology includes about twenty consonants and five vowels. Common consonants are p, t, k, m, n, l, r, s, f, h, as well as glides w and y. Stress is typically on the penultimate syllable. The traditional writing system is a runic script called Eldrun; modern texts are often transliterated into the Latin alphabet.

The language uses basic subject–verb–object order and employs postpositional particles to mark grammatical relations. Nouns form plurals with the suffix -ai. Adjectives precede nouns. Verbs encode aspect and mood through affixes; there is no grammatical gender and pronouns distinguish person and number. Word order is relatively flexible, aided by particles.

Eldorish appears in epic poetry, legal texts, and ceremonial speech within the lore. Notable works include the Luminal Codex and the Crown of Echoes, which are often translated into other languages for accessibility. In contemporary media, Eldorish is used to convey atmosphere and authenticity, with linguistic studies occurring within the in-world academia.
